Morning

My eyes open. I can see the rain spattering softly against the window. Another day of rain. I slowly get out of bed and take a quick shower. I hate the shower. It reminds me of the stormy weather that has enveloped my life.

I eat a tasteless breakfast and walk down to the beach. The sand sticks to shoes and the rain slowly falls all around me. It’s cold and windy. Thankfully, the rain isn’t falling too hard. I look out across the waves. Sometimes, I wish I could just fly away.

I walk. I look up at the dark clouds and hear the crashing of the waves. I think about her.

She’s laughing. She’s running into the water. She’s splashing me. She’s happy.

I make it back into the house and get my car keys. The drive to town takes me down windy, back roads. Each opening in the trees reveals tidal rivers. It’s beautiful.

The town is quiet. The tourists must be staying inside because of the rain. I park outside the coffee shop and head inside. My table faces the road. I like to watch the people walk by. Today though, all I see is the occasional car. I don’t mind.

My coffee slides down my throat. The waitress asks me if I need anything else. I manage a smile and tell her no.

I try going for a drive, but my mind just goes back to her.

She’s laughing. She’s running into the water. She’s splashing me. She’s happy.

I head back to the house.

I watch as the sky becomes darker. Rain may be on its way once again. I close the window and walk into the kitchen. My hands are washing dishes but my mind is somewhere else. My mind is with her.

She’s wearing a white dress. She’s smiling. She turns and faces the ocean.

The dishes are clean. I walk through to the living room. I look through the large window at the waves crashing against the shore. A gull swoops down into the waves and soars into the air with a fish in his mouth. Life goes by so quickly.

She’s wearing a white dress. She’s smiling. She turns and faces the ocean.

The rain comes in sheets. Maybe tomorrow. Tomorrow.

A day without rain.
